Allied Against Opioid Abuse Toolkit - Hispanic Community
We are pleased to present a new bilingual toolkit and video focused on promoting the safe use, storage and disposal of prescription opioids in the Hispanic community. AAOA and the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) partnered to create these materials to help educate consumers about prescription opioid safety. The resources were developed by an advisory committee of NHMA members and are available in both Spanish and English.
With Hispanic communities throughout the United States disproportionately affected by the prescription drug epidemic, AAOA and NHMA’s collaboration aims to increase awareness about the rights, risks and responsibilities associated with prescription opioids as well as alternative pain management options by providing resources for healthcare providers to easily share with their patients.
The toolkit includes the following:
- Questions About Opioids? fact sheet (available in Spanish);
- A Guide to Managing Pain After Surgery conversation guide (available in Spanish);
- Safe Storage and Disposal of Unused Prescription Opioids resource (available in Spanish); and,
- “La prescripción de opioides: lo que necesita saber,” an informational Spanish-language video.
